In a significant move towards bolstering the laptop manufacturing industry in India, Intel has announced strategic collaborations with eight prominent Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs). This collaborative effort aims to expedite laptop production within the country, demonstrating Intel's commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative.

The partnering firms include Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. For several of these companies, this venture marks their inaugural entry into the realm of laptop manufacturing, making Intel's expertise and support invaluable.

Under this initiative, Intel will extend its technological prowess to facilitate the production of entry-level laptops in India, leveraging state-of-the-art SMT lines. Additionally, the company will assist in establishing robust quality control processes for components and offer guidance in benchmarking finished products. This collaboration encompasses support for ODMs across both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) processes.

Santhosh Viswanathan, VP & MD, India Region, Intel, expressed, “The collaboration between Intel and the Indian manufacturing ecosystem marks a pivotal moment for the Indian electronics industry..." He highlighted Intel's dedication to nurturing electronic manufacturing capabilities in India and its commitment to both the 'Make in India' initiative and the technological progress of the nation.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, commended the collaboration, aligning it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to propel India's Digital Economy to $1 Trillion and enable the electronics manufacturing sector to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26. He emphasized the goal of establishing a robust and versatile Indian Electronics Ecosystem.

Furthermore, Intel is set to host the India Tech Ecosystem Summit in November, providing a platform for local manufacturers to showcase an expanded range of devices produced in India. While the initial offerings will comprise entry-level devices, there are plans for the manufacturers to transition to more premium products as the foundation is solidified. This collaborative effort is poised to revolutionize India's electronics manufacturing landscape, paving the way for greater self-reliance and technological advancement.
