Samsung One UI 6.0 based on Android 14 unveiled with redesigned quick settings panel, new fonts

In August, Samsung rolled out the initial beta version of One UI 6, its fresh interface built on the foundation of Android 14, exclusively for a select range of smartphones. Despite consistently delivering updates to beta users, the company refrained from officially discussing One UI 6 on a public platform until now. The opportunity finally arose at the Samsung Developer Conference 2023 (SDC23), allowing the brand to share more about what users can anticipate in this upcoming update.

One UI 6 introduces a range of exciting enhancements, including a redesigned Quick Panel, a refreshed aesthetic, and the adoption of the One UI Sans font. Although we previously covered the major features of One UI 6 in a report a few months ago, Samsung has provided further insights. The Quick Panel, for instance, now offers an expanded array of options, enhancing user accessibility. Additionally, there's a brand-new Music widget that incorporates improved visual animations. Samsung has also fine-tuned the Weather app widget, enabling it to display future forecasts and critical weather information more clearly.

Furthermore, Samsung unveiled the One UI Sans font, which will be implemented system-wide on Samsung phones beginning with One UI 6. This font choice aims to provide a fresher and more legible appearance. Samsung also expressed that its emojis now possess a more "fun" aesthetic compared to the traditional ones. Users can look forward to increased personalization options for the lock screen, with hints at additional features possibly making their way into future One UI iterations.

Samsung also announced that the Knox Vault security feature, initially introduced with the Galaxy S21 series, will be accessible on upcoming Galaxy A models launching with One UI 6. During the SDC23 keynote, Samsung shared updates on various fronts, including its Tizen OS for TVs, Bixby, SmartThings, and health-related features.

Notably, the first devices to receive a stable Android 14 update were Google's Pixel series of smartphones, which received the OTA update just last week. Samsung aims to bring One UI to its latest flagship devices before the year concludes.
